FILMS IN COMPETITION 2012 

 

The Nordisk Panorama program focuses on the competition films in the genres of shorts and documentaries. Selected films compete in the categories of Nordic Short Film, Nordic Documentary and New Nordic Voices. 

To be eligible for Filmkontakt Nord / Nordisk Panorama registration, the film must qualify as an independent production and a Nordic production or be directed by a Nordic director. The films also have to be completed within the current or preceding year and subtitled in English or English versioned. 

For this years competition we received altogether 500 film submissions: 210 documentaries and 290 short films. 

 

THE FILMS WILL COMPETE FOR THE FOLLOWING PRIZES

 

Nordic Documentary Award

The Nordic Documentary Award is presented by the documentary jury to one of the films in the Nordic Documentary Competition. The jury may choose only one winner, but also give two Honorable Mentions. The price of 7000€ is sponsored by POEM Foundation and goes to the director(s) of the film.

Honorary Mention winners Ina Holmqvist and Emelie Wallgren (Sweden) of the film The Quiet One.

Nordic Short Film Award

The Nordic Short Film Award is presented by the short film jury to one of the films in the Nordic Short Film Competition. The jury may choose only one winner, but also give two Honorable Mentions. The prize of 7000€ is sponsored by the Finnish broadcasting company YLE, and goes to the director(s) of the film. The price-winning film will qualify for consideration in the Short Film Category of the Annual Academy Awards® without the standard theatrical run, provided that the film otherwise complies with the Academy rules. 

Honorary Mention winner Malene Choi Jensen (Denmark) of the film Creature.

New Nordic Voices Award

The New Nordic Voices Competition introduces promising Nordic filmmakers. The filmmakers' works have not previously been screened in Nordisk Panorama competition programme, and selected films are among the first releases by the filmmaker. The New Nordic Voices award of 3500€ is presented by the New Nordic Voices jury and the director(s) of the film receives the award. The jury may only choose one winner, but also give two Honorable Mentions. The award as well as the invitations of directors in competition and jury members is sponsored by the following Nordic regional film funds: POEM, Icelandic Film Centre, Østnorsk Filmsenter, Vestnorsk FilmsenterFilm i Väst, Filmpool Nord and  Film i Skåne.

FEDEORA Award

The FEDEORA (Federation of Film Critics of Europe and the Mediterranean) Award is given to one of the documentaries in the Nordic Documentary or New Nordic Voices Competition with a duration of max. 30 minutes. The price of 1000€ is sponsored by The Finnish Documentary Guild and goes to the director(s) of the film. The eligible films are: Bedtime Stories from the Axis of Evil (dir. Vibeke Bryld), Enclosed Moments (dir. Jens Klevje & Fabian Svensson), Me Without You (dir. Aage Rais-Nordentoft), Mothers (dir. Elina Hyvärinen), The Child of Silent Winter (dir. Iiris Härmä), The Missing Darkness (dir. Birgit Johnsen) and The Quiet One (dir. Ina Holmqvist & Emelie Wallgren).
