The festival is back in Malmö!

Nordisk Panorama - 5 Cities Film Festival has for several years been a vital stop on the international film festival circuit - famous for its´ cultural importance and creativity, and recognized as a good place to find new, soulful, cutting-edge work. Taking the pulse on the current Nordic short film & documentary scene, the festival creates a vibrant meeting-point for filmmakers, distributors, financiers and audience alike! Since 1989 the festival has rotated annually between the five Nordic countries Sweden, Island, Norway, Denmark and Finland and this years festival host city is Malmö in Sweden.

Malmö is situated in the very south of  Sweden, in the dynamic Öresund region, and is celebrated for its´ rich cultural life, continental atmosphere and magnificent parks. A multicultural city where inhabitants from nearly 170 nationalities add to the creative and warm atmosphere. Nordisk Panorama has been held in Malmö before, in 2003, with about 500 international film professionals and over 5000 festival visitors.

Less than 20 years ago...

In the beginning the festival was established as the main meeting place for the professional Nordic short film & documentary community. Public interest from movie-lovers convinced festival organizers to open up the closed industry event, and ever since Nordisk Panorama has continued to grow and reach new audiences with every year. Next year the festival will celebrate its 20th anniversary in Reykjavik, Island.

Nordisk Panorama offers an unique opportunity to take the pulse on the Nordic Scene - to be among the first to see new films by proven talents and to discover new potential. A number of internationally well-known Nordic directors have debuted at Nordisk Panorama throughout the years.

Nordisk Panorama is arranged annually by Filmkontakt Nord and a local partner in each of the five Nordic countries. In Sweden the major partner is the City of Malmö and the regional partner is Film i Skåne.

...yet MORE than a film festival

The festival wants to open eyes and hearts to Nordic short & documentary filmmaking. Not only through films, but through a variety of exciting happenings during the entire festival, such as seminars, master classes, side series, parties, open forums and network opportunities between professionals and audiences alike.

The main showcase of Nordisk Panorama is the Competition Programme. It consists of approximately 80 new short film & documentary titles, of which the vast majority are introduced to an international audience for the very first time. The three main competitions are Best Nordic Short, Best Nordic Documentary and New Nordic Voices. Other special awards are the Canal + Award and the introduction of SF New Talent Pitch Award and Sparbanksstiftelsen Skåne Award for Short Documentary.

Three major parallell events take place during the festival: Nordisk Forum for Co-financing of documentaries, Nordisk Panorama Market and Childrens Panorama. The Forum and Market span every professional focus area, from the development and financing to the distribution and exhibition.
